Discover Guatemala's indigenous cultures and Mayan traditions on this day trip to San Juan La Laguna or Santiago, including a boat ride on Lake Atitlan.
Activity Details
We will pick you up from your hotel in Guatemala City in the morning and travel to the Guatemalan Highlands, heading towards Panajachel, the largest town on the shores of Lake Atitlán. After approximately a 3-hour drive, we will begin a guided tour of Panajachel, visiting attractions like Santander Street and its church. We’ll proceed to the dock for views of the lake and its volcanoes.
Next, we will board a boat to cross Lake Atitlan, observing the Tolimán, Atitlán and San Pedro volcanoes while learning about local legends. We will disembark in San Juan La Laguna to participate in various handicraft workshops involving chocolate, textiles, and medicinal plants. Afterward, we will return by boat to Panajachel for a typical Guatemalan meal and free time to explore.
The return journey to hotels in Guatemala City takes approximately 12 to 12.5 hours.
Santiago Atitlán Boat Trip
During booking, you can upgrade to include a boat trip to Santiago Atitlán. The boat will head east to visit where the figure of unity, Maximón, is located. We will walk along Santiago's main street and visit the brotherhood of Maximón to learn about local offerings. After our visit, we will sail back to Panajachel for free time to enjoy lunch at your pace.
