Join us on this guided exploration of Monforte d'Alba, where we will delve into the rich history of Cuneo, a stunning province within the Piedmont region.
Tour Overview
At the designated meeting point, we will commence our guided exploration of Monforte d'Alba from the Tourist Information Office, found at 3 Via della Chiesa. Prepare yourself to uncover one of the most picturesque villages in the Langhe. This scenic hilly landscape lies to the south and east of the renowned Tanaro River, nestled in the Cuneo province of Piedmont.
Our first destination will be the Church of Madonna della Neve, which dates back to the early 20th century. Following this visit, we will make our way to Piazza Umberto I, the heart of the town’s vibrant social and commercial activities. From this central square, we will proceed to the Martina Museum, which commemorates a notable colonel from the Savoy army.
As we explore this historic building, walking through its various rooms, our journey will then lead us to the medieval section of Monforte d'Alba, situated in the higher part of town. Here, we will discuss the intriguing history of the Cathars while wandering the charming streets of Saracca, recognized as the town's oldest district. Our next stop will be Piazza della Vecchia Chiesa, where we can admire the Oratorio di Sant'Agostino and the Clock Tower.
Following this, we will visit the open-air amphitheater of Horschowski, home to the celebrated Monforte Jazz Festival held each July. A photo opportunity awaits at the iconic Big Bench #12, perfect for capturing memorable moments.
We will wrap up our tour at the lookout point of Alberto Scarampi del Cairo after an enjoyable hour of exploration.
