Get to know one of the most famous butterfly nets in Lake Patzcuaro and enjoy a visit to Janitzio Island on this day trip from Morelia.
Day Trip Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at Avenida Francisco I Madero and head to the jetty of Lake Patzcuaro, where we'll board a boat. After an hour's cruise on the lake, we'll visit Isla Janitzio, an island of volcanic origin. Here, we'll observe fishermen using their butterfly nets and may see species such as charal, black bass, tilapia, and carp.
Upon arriving at Janitzio Island, we'll climb to the statue of José María Morelos, a 47.75-meter tall monument honoring a key figure of Mexican Independence.
Participants will have free time for lunch before we explore the village, which was the province's capital in 1534. We'll learn about the history of Don Vasco de Quiroga, the first archbishop of Michoacán, known for his support of the local indigenous community.
We'll then take the boat back to the departure pier and return to Morelia, arriving at your hotel after a total of 8 hours.
