On our day trip to El Oro de Hidalgo and Tlalpujahua de Rayón, we will explore two of Mexico's Magic Towns, departing from Morelia to discover their mining traditions.

El Oro de Hidalgo & Tlalpujahua de Rayón Day Trip

Your journey begins with a hotel pick-up in Morelia at 7 am, after which we will travel to the El Oro de Hidalgo Magic Town.

Upon arrival, a walking tour of the historic center will showcase its notable stately buildings, reflecting the wealth from historic gold mining. Highlights include the neoclassical Parish Church of Santa María de Guadalupe and the Juárez Theatre, noted for its art nouveau style.

We will then enter an old mine shaft to discuss mining processes and associated risks. A visit to a 100-year-old draught will provide a unique experience, followed by a chance to carve stone in a stonemasonry workshop and observe a glassblowing workshop to understand the creation of handcrafted pieces.

Afterwards, you will have 1 hour of free time for lunch before we proceed to the Magic Town of Tlalpujahua de Rayón. This town features cobbled streets with colonial architecture and a rich mining history to uncover during our guided tour.

Tour highlights include a 17th-century Franciscan convent, the temple of Santiago Puxtla, and the Church of El Carmen. We will also learn about its moniker as the town of eternal Christmas, and you will have the opportunity to purchase souvenirs from Christmas shops.

The trip concludes with a return to Morelia, arriving at your hotel by 8:30 pm.
