At the agreed-upon time, we will gather on Avenida Francisco I. Madero and commence our journey with a scenic 3-hour drive to El Rosario Sanctuary, a haven for millions of monarch butterflies.

Upon reaching our destination, you'll find yourself in an extraordinary setting designed to safeguard this fragile species, situated at an elevation of 9842 feet (3000 meters). You can opt to explore the butterfly sanctuary either by foot or on horseback. As you traverse the 1.24 mile (2 kilometer) path, marvel at these captivating creatures as they dance among the oyamel pine forests. If fortune smiles upon you, one of these butterflies may even choose to rest on you!

Did you know that these butterflies journey from the United States and Canada to escape the winter chill? Throughout our exploration, we will gain insights into their migratory patterns and other fascinating details. For instance, monarch butterflies can cover distances of up to 80.7 miles (130 kilometers) daily, flap their wings between 300 to 700 times a minute, and have a lifespan that can reach nine months!

Once we complete our tour of the sanctuary, we’ll indulge in a savory meal featuring blue corn quesadilla and a cup of hot soup. A delightful experience for your taste buds!
