On this day trip from Morelia, you'll enjoy an unforgettable experience by visiting the El Rosario Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary.
El Rosario Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary
At the designated time, we'll meet on Avenida Francisco I. Madero and set off on a 3-hour drive to El Rosario Sanctuary, a reserve home to millions of monarch butterflies.
Upon arrival, we will enter an environment set up to protect this species, located at 9842 feet (3000 meters) above sea level. You can choose to tour the sanctuary on foot or on horseback. During the 1.24 mile (2 kilometer) journey, you'll see these butterflies fluttering through the oyamel pine forests.
We will learn about the migration of the butterflies from the United States and Canada to hibernate. Monarch butterflies can fly up to 80.7 miles (130 kilometers) a day, flap their wings 300 to 700 times a minute, and live for up to nine months.
After the tour of the sanctuary, we will enjoy lunch including blue corn quesadilla and a cup of hot soup.
Afterward, we will make our way back to Morelia, where we will conclude the trip after a total of 9 hours.
