Private Tour to Paricutín Volcano & Angahuan
After a 9 am pickup from your hotel in Morelia, we will start the private tour to explore the world's youngest volcano, Paricutín, which emerged from farmland in 1943 and was active for over 10 years. A three and a half hour drive will take us to the base of the volcano in Pico de Tancítaro National Park. You can choose to embark on a two-kilometre route on foot or on horseback.
We'll explore the surroundings of this 2800-metre-high volcano and approach the ruins of San Juan Paricutín, buried by lava. Look for the church of San Juan Parangaricutiro.
Next, we will drive to Angahuan, a Purepecha community where you can learn about the indigenous language and customs. We will visit the Church of Santiago Apostle, notable for its Mudéjar style carvings. Following this, enjoy a traditional lunch featuring local dishes like churipo, corundas, and gordias de queso. Finally, we will return to Morelia to drop you off at your hotel at 6 pm.
