On this water trekking route through the Alcantara Gorges, we'll explore one of the notable protected natural areas in the north-east of Sicily.
Tour Description
We'll meet at the designated time at the adventure sports centre located on the carretera da Sciara s/n. From Motta Camastra, we will commence a short drive in an off-roading vehicle to the gorges of the Alcantara River.
Upon arrival in this protected environment, we will begin an engaging water trekking activity within the gorges. The route spans 700 meters to 1 kilometre (0.4 to 0.6 miles), featuring volcanic rock walls reaching heights of up to 25 metres (82 ft), which were formed by cooling magma interacting with the water course. We will navigate along the river bed while examining various geological formations within the gorges.
Throughout the hike, participants will learn about the origin of these canyons and discover the flora and fauna that thrive in this unique ecosystem. We will conclude the trek by returning to the initial meeting point, where the off-roading vehicle will be ready to transport us back. The overall activity lasts 1 hour.
