Harburg Castle and Rothenburg Day Trip
The route from Munich to Harburg Castle and Rothenburg is known as Southern Germany's Romantic Road. This trip takes you through the scenic forests and mountains of Bavaria.
After pick-up from the meeting point, we head into rural Bavaria. Our first stop is Harburg Castle, where you can visit this 11th-century fortress at your own pace (entry not included). This hilltop complex is one of the oldest and best-conserved medieval citadels in Bavaria.
Next, we proceed to Rothenburg, passing through the volcanic landscapes of the Swabia region, rich in fossils of prehistoric animals.
Upon arriving at Rothenburg, a medieval town well-preserved over centuries, known for its striking red-tiled rooftops, we will explore its cobbled streets and old town, including the 14th-century wall and the old gateway to the city. You may stroll along the wall and climb the Röedert Tower, which is 200m high.
After the tour, you will have free time for food and shopping in the narrow streets of this beautiful location. The return trip to Munich will pass through Hallertau, the largest hop-growing area in the world, with arrival back at the departure point around 7 pm.
