Harburg Castle and Rothenburg Day Trip
The route from Munich to Harburg Castle and Rothenburg is known as Southern Germany's Romantic Road. This trip takes you into the heart of Bavarian forests and mountains. After pickup from the meeting point, we will begin our journey deep into rural Bavaria. Our first stop is Harburg Castle, where you can visit this 11th-century fortress at your own pace (entry not included). This hilltop complex is one of the oldest and best-preserved medieval citadels in Bavaria.
We will then continue towards Rothenburg, passing through the volcanic landscapes of the Suabia region, known for its fossils of prehistoric animals.
Upon arrival in Rothenburg, a medieval town perfectly preserved over the centuries, the red tiles of the rooftops give it the nickname 'Red Fort.' We will explore the cobbled streets of the enchanting old town, where you will encounter the 14th-century wall and the old gateway to the city. You can also stroll along the wall and climb to the top of the 200m Röedert Tower.
After the tour, you will have free time to eat and shop in the narrow streets of this beautiful location. Our return trip to Munich passes through Hallertau, the largest hop-growing area globally, and we will arrive back at the departure point around 7 pm.
