Harburg Castle and Rothenburg Day Trip
The route from Munich to Harburg Castle and the city of Rothenburg is often referred to as Southern Germany's Romantic Road. This trip takes you into the heart of the idyllic forests and mountains of Bavaria.
After collecting you from the meeting point, we will begin our trip to rural Bavaria. Our first stop is Harburg Castle, where you have the opportunity to visit this 11th-century fortress at your own pace (entry not included). This extensive hilltop complex is one of the oldest and best conserved medieval citadels in Bavaria.
We will continue towards Rothenburg, passing through the fascinating volcanic landscapes of the Suabia region, abundant with fossils of prehistoric animals.
Finally, we arrive at Rothenburg, a medieval town perfectly preserved over the centuries. The red tiles of the rooftops earn it the nickname 'Red Fort'.
We will explore the cobbled streets of the enchanting old town, where you will see the 14th-century wall and pass through the old gateway. You will also have the opportunity to stroll along the wall and climb to the top of the 200m Röedert Tower.
After this tour, you will have free time to eat and shop in the narrow streets. Our return trip to Munich passes through Hallertau, the largest hop-growing area in the world, with an expected arrival back at around 7 pm.
