Set on an island in the middle of Lake Chiemsee, Herrenchiemsee Palace is a significant landmark in southern Bavaria. Join us for this day trip from Munich to explore its history.

Day Trip Details

We will meet at 4 Dachauer Straße and walk to Munich Central Station. Here, we will board a train for a one-hour ride to the town of Chiemsee.

Upon arrival, we will take a boat to Herreninsel, the larger island. You will have the option to visit the Herrenchiemsee Palace, inspired by Versailles and commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Inside, you can explore the lavish rooms and gardens while learning about Ludwig II, also known as the "Mad King." If you prefer to stay outside, you can enjoy the palace grounds at your own pace.

Next, we will take another boat to Fraueninsel, which features a Benedictine convent with over 1,000 years of history. You will have free time to explore the island’s quaint village and relax.

Later, we will regroup for the return boat ride to Chiemsee and catch the train back to Munich. The total duration of the trip is nine and a half hours.
