Why Visit Mycenae?

On the Peloponnese peninsula lies one of the most important archaeological sites in Europe: Mycenae. This ancient city, home to the legendary kingdom of Agamemnon, gives its name to the Mycenaean period from 1600 to 1200 BC.

With this ticket, you'll discover scenes from Homer's Iliad and Odyssey. You'll cross the Lion Gate, a city entrance over 3 metres (9.8 feet) high, crowned by a monolith with two lions facing each other.

From there, you'll see the ruins of the royal Palace of Agamemnon and the Treasury of Atreus, or Tomb of Agamemnon. This circular structure exemplifies Mycenaean architecture, noted for its "Tholos" shape. Mycenae is also encircled by a great wall, attributed to the Cyclops.

This ticket includes access to the Archaeological Museum of Mycenae, where you can explore its significance through a photographic exhibition and a collection of over 2500 objects from the Mycenaean civilisation.
