On this guided tour of Shirakawa, you'll be captivated by the charm of this traditional Japanese village of the Gifu prefecture!

Description

At the indicated time we'll meet at the Shirakawa bus terminal, marking the beginning of our guided tour of this traditional village in rural Japan.

We will first head to a viewpoint to enjoy the best panoramic views of Shirakawa, admiring the area’s natural beauty and the notable gassho-zukuri-style houses with their distinctive sloping rooves.

Next, we will make our way to the Nagase house, a traditional Japanese home over 250 years old, which has been occupied by the same family throughout its history. Here, we will discuss the construction, layout, and the local way of life.

We will then visit Myozenji Temple, founded in the 18th century, which is among the most sacred sites in Shirakawa. We will explore its various areas, including the main prayer hall and the zen garden.

Finally, we will arrive at the Shirakawa Hachiman Temple situated on a hilltop, known for its impressive architecture and scenic views.

After two hours, our guided tour of Shirakawa will conclude in the vicinity of the shrine. See you next time!
