Shirakawago and Hirayu Onsen Excursion
Our adventure begins at the prearranged time when we gather at the Shirakawago bus station. From there, we will board a public bus that will take us on this unique journey into Japan's countryside.
Our first destination is the enchanting village of Shirakawago, where we will delve into its rich history. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is renowned for its majestic houses with steep straw roofs, serene ponds, and lush rice paddies, creating a truly magical atmosphere.
Next, we will explore the Wada family's residence to witness the dynamics of a traditional Japanese home. You’ll also encounter various tools used in sericulture. Throughout the visit, our knowledgeable guide will share fascinating insights about everything we discover.
After our exploration, we will hop back on the bus and set off towards Hirayu Onsen, a thermal retreat nestled in the Japanese Alps. Following an hour and a half of travel, we will have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the soothing thermal waters, which are integral to local purification customs.
Once rejuvenated, we will embark on a stroll to experience another highlight of the region: the stunning Hirayu Waterfalls. As we trek through this serene landscape, we will find ourselves enveloped in nature’s tranquility and breathtaking vistas.
Our day concludes at Takayama station, where we will bid farewell after a full day of exploration lasting approximately eight hours.
