Day Trip Details

At the indicated time, we'll meet you at your hotel in Kanazawa and head by public bus to the historic village of Shirakawago. Experience a village where Gassho-style houses, built in the early 1800s, are still lived in today.

As we drive through the scenic Japanese Alps, enjoy the breathtaking scenery. After a 1-hour ride, we will arrive at our destination. Our first stop will be the Wada-House, the largest Gassho-style farmhouse in Shirakawago.

In the village, we’ll see the largest concentration of Gassho-zukuri style houses, each featuring a thatched roof designed to withstand heavy snowfall. These homes are held together using only ropes. The term gassh?-zuruki translates to 'praying hands.'

Alongside our guide, we’ll embark on a 1-hour tour of Ogimachi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to learn about local life and the history of these homes. Some houses are over 250 years old, with some transformed into open-air museums.

After the tour, you will have an hour of free time to buy lunch at local restaurants before we begin our return journey to Kanazawa, arriving at your hotel around 5 hours after the start.

Hotel Pickup

Please note that we will meet you at your hotel if you're in downtown Kanazawa. We will either take a taxi (at your expense) or walk to the bus station. If your hotel is outside downtown, we will meet you directly at the Kanazawa bus station.
