Discover Shirakawago's Gassho-style houses, scenic mountain views, and local culture on this private day trip from Kanazawa.
Day Trip Details
We will meet you at your hotel in Kanazawa at the indicated time and head by public bus to the historic village of Shirakawago. Experience Gassho-style houses from the early 1800s still inhabited today. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Japanese Alps during the 1-hour ride to our destination in the mountains. Our first stop will be the Wada-House, the largest traditional Gassho-style farmhouse.
In this village, see the largest concentration of Gassho-zukuri style houses, characterized by their signature thatched roofs. These homes are held together using only ropes. We will take a 1-hour tour of Ogimachi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to learn about local life and the history of these historic homes, some over 250 years old and transformed into open-air museums.
You will have one hour of free time for lunch at local restaurants before we begin our return journey to Kanazawa, arriving at your hotel approximately 5 hours after our start.
Hotel Pickup
We will meet you at your hotel if you are in downtown Kanazawa and either take a taxi (at your expense) or walk to the bus station. If your hotel is outside the downtown area, we will meet you at the Kanazawa bus station.
