Day Trip to Pompeii
On the scheduled day, we will set off from the heart of Naples and embark on a bus journey to the archaeological area of Pompeii.
After traveling for about 40 minutes, we will arrive at the archaeological site of this ancient Roman city. On that fateful August day in 79 A.C., the renowned emperor Tito received devastating news: Vesuvius had unleashed destruction upon Pompei, as well as Stabiae and Herculaneum. As we traverse its streets, we’ll uncover the catastrophic effects of the volcano on Pompeii, marveling at the layers of ash that enveloped much of the urban landscape.
This city remained concealed until the 18th century. We’ll delve into the intriguing tale of its rediscovery, prompted by excavations funded by Carlos III, future king of Spain. Our exploration will take us through the forum, the bustling center of Roman life and commerce.
Moreover, we’ll gain insights into the daily lives of its citizens by touring public structures like the baths and the lupanar, adorned with frescoes featuring erotic imagery. As we step inside the theater, we’ll encounter remnants that echo with the ritualistic and dramatic performances of that period.
Upon concluding our 2-hour tour of Pompeii, we will commence our return to the drop-off location in Naples, marking the end of this immersive journey. The overall duration ranges from 3.5 to 4.5 hours.
