Royal Palace and Bourbon Tunnel Guided Tour
At the selected time, we will meet at Gesu Nuovo Church. After admiring the façade of the Royal Palace of Naples, we will enter this monument, which dates back to 1600. During the guided tour, we will explore various spaces such as the throne room, the old theatre, and the chapel. Beautiful works of art and furniture will be encountered throughout.
We will discuss the history of this palace complex, which served as the residence of the Bourbon dynasty for over a century, including notable kings like Charles III and Ferdinand IV. The important connections between the Bourbons and Naples will also be highlighted.
After touring the Royal Palace, we will proceed to the Bourbon Tunnel, also known as the Bourbon gallery. Initially built for troop movement, it served primarily during World War II as a bunker.
We will navigate through this underground tunnel that provided shelter for around 10,000 people during the mid-20th century. We will visit its old military hospital and discuss significant episodes related to this intriguing site.
After a four-hour tour, we will conclude the activity by returning to Piazza del Plebiscito square.
