Join us on a trekking route around Laguna Sofia to explore the highlights of the Chilean Patagonia. We'll also visit the Escondida and La Ventana cave paintings, unique in the Magallanes region.
Description
On the day of the activity, pickup from your hotel in Puerto Natales will be at 8:30 am. We will drive to the Laguna Sofia trailhead, arriving after approximately 90 minutes.
After a preparatory talk, we'll embark on a 3.5-hour, 8-kilometre (4.9-mile) trek of moderate intensity, starting towards the cave sector. The route leads through a scenic lenga forest.
The next stage takes us to the lagoon's viewpoint, ideal for observing native birds such as the Andean condors.
A light snack and mate will be provided before continuing along rocky walls to view an impressive collection of cave paintings in the Chilean region of Magallanes. We will also visit La Ventana and Escondida caves to see their stalactites and stalagmites and traces of extinct fauna.
Our final stop will be at the Los Aleros Dos Herraduras sector, allowing time to appreciate the Patagonian landscapes before returning to the trailhead. We aim to return to your hotel in Puerto Natales by 1:30 pm.
