Tour of Tatacoa Natural History Museum + Fossil Workshop

Tour Details

At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel and begin this day in the Tatacoa Desert, which is a tropical dry forest and the second driest region in Colombia.

First, we'll visit the village of La Victoria, where we'll participate in a fossil workshop led by local youth protecting the paleontological heritage of the area.

During the workshop, we'll learn how to identify fossils, the different types of fossilization, how to extract them using a technique called enchaquetada ("jacketed extraction"), and how to protect them for further study.

After this unique experience, we'll enjoy a traditional lunch. After lunch, we'll head to the Tatacoa Natural History Museum.

During our guided tour of the museum, we'll see fossil collections discovered in this major paleontological site. Finally, we'll return to the starting point, wrapping up the activity between 10 and 12 hours after it began.
