Visit majestic natural sights including God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, the Three Rondawels and Blyde River Canyon – the third largest canyon of its kind in the world. This is one of the most scenic routes in the region offering magnificent views, dramatic landscapes, exquisite waterfalls and striking gorges.

Appropriately named, God’s Window in the Blyde River Canyon offers one of the most scenic vantage points in South Africa, with spectacular and astonishing views over the Lowveld. At God’s Window, impressive cliffs plunge down 700m and on a clear day you can see the renowned Kruger National Park and beyond, towards the Lebombo Mountains where South Africa borders with Mozambique.

Bourke’s Luck Potholes—named after the prospector, Tom Bourke, a 19th-century gold rush prospector who is believed to have struck it lucky here—are a very impressive and dramatic series of natural rock formations and pools carved out over the centuries by river activity. You’ll find the potholes where the Treur and Blyde rivers meet. The force of these two rivers’ water along with the sand and rock particles transported in the rivers creates cylindrical potholes in the sandstone bedrock.

The Three Rondavels are another spectacular sight in the Blyde River Canyon. They look like traditional African beehive huts, but they are three massive pinnacles of rock that rise above the green canyon below. From the viewpoint 1 380m above sea level, with the Blyde River Canyon below, you'll still be looking up at these three distinct peaks that rise 700m above the neighbouring countryside.

The Blyde River (also known as the Motlatse) Canyon is the third largest green canyon in the world with some of the most spectacular viewing points in South Africa. Go hiking, boating, swimming or on a scenic drive through this 29 000ha nature reserve, a remarkable geological feature carved out of red sandstone.
