The story follows young prince Simba, whose uncle Scar plots to kill him and his father, King Mufasa, to seize power. Simba survives, but Scar convinces him he is responsible for his father's death, driving him away. Years later, Simba returns to find the savannah in decline under Scar's rule and decides to confront him. Based on the 1994 Oscar-winning Disney animated film, The Lion King has won six Tony Awards and an Evening Standard Award, remaining New York's best-selling musical since 1997.
