Dakar & Goree Island Private Tour
Upon request, we will collect you from your hotel in Saly and travel to Dakar, taking approximately an hour and a half.
Our first stop is at the port for a ferry ride to the island of Goree, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The island was a pivotal location in the Atlantic slave trade from the 16th to 19th centuries.
We will explore the island, visiting historic sites and memorials. The House of Slaves is included, where we will discuss its past as a prison and marketplace for enslaved Africans. We will also stroll through the narrow streets, viewing colonial houses, and have time at a local restaurant to try traditional food (not included).
Afterwards, we will return on the ferry to Dakar for a walking tour of notable sights, starting at Independence Square, surrounded by buildings reflective of the 1940s and 1950s. We will see the Presidential Palace, visit the lively markets of Kermel and Sandaga, and explore the artisan stalls of Soumbedioune. You will also encounter the African Renaissance Monument, the largest sculpture on the continent, and learn about its controversial significance.
Finally, we will visit the Medina neighborhood, home to the Grand Mosque and the vibrant market of Tilene, where Shamans offer charms and amulets.
We will return to Saly by around 6 pm to drop you off at your hotel.
