Trip Details
At the scheduled time, you will be collected from your hotel and transported to the port of Dakar, where a ferry will take you to Goree Island.
During the tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, you will learn about its role in the Atlantic slave trade. The first stop will be the House of Slaves, used as a prison and market for slaves. Next, you will explore the island's narrow streets lined with colonial houses and visit the historic fort for panoramic views of the coastline. Afterward, we will return to Dakar via ferry and board a bus to Lac Rose (Pink Lake), known as the last stage of the Paris-Dakar Rally until 2008.
A 4x4 vehicle will take you on a tour around the lake, showcasing the pink waters and surrounding sand dunes that separate it from the Atlantic Ocean. Guests can enjoy a brief swim in the lake, floating on its salty surface due to the high salt content.
The tour concludes 10.5 hours later back at the starting point.
Bathing in Lac Rose
Swimming in Lac Rose is dependent on time constraints, with a maximum of 15 minutes allowed to enjoy the waters.
Please Note
Following the heavy rains of summer 2024, the lake has retained water and lost its color. Salt extraction activities have resumed, yet the lake's pink hue has not returned, and there is uncertainty on when it will.
