Day Trip Details

We will pick you up in the morning from your hotel in Saly, before heading to Joal, one of the two municipalities that form the Joal-Fadiouth area.

After arriving at the ancient 15th-century colony, we will make our first stop at the famous fishing port. As we explore the area, you will learn about its history and notable figures from here, such as the poet and politician Léopold Sédar Senghor, the first president of Senegal, recognized for his contributions as one of the most important 20th-century African intellectuals and his distinction in the Académie française.

The next part of our tour takes us to the neighboring settlement of Fadiouth. To reach the island, we will walk across a beautiful wooden bridge that historically connects the two communities. On the other side, you will discover the captivating local cemetery. The tombs and headstones here are mainly built with the shells of molluscs and the graveyard is shared equally between Muslims and Christians. Over time, this location has become a symbol of peace and tolerance between the various religions and cultures of Senegal.

At the end of the guided tour of the cemetery on the island of Fadiouth, you'll have the option of returning to the mainland on a relaxing canoe ride. Each boat has a maximum capacity of one passenger, and the price of the trip is €15 per person. If you prefer to walk, we will return to the coast of Joal by crossing the wooden bridge over the Atlantic again.

From Joal, we will take you back to your hotel in Saly. During the journey of around one hour, you will admire the beautiful coastal landscapes of Senegal.
