Day Trip Details
You will be picked up from your hotel in Saly in the morning before heading to Joal, one of the municipalities in the Joal-Fadiouth area. In the ancient 15th-century colony, your first stop will be the famous fishing port. Here, you will learn about its history and notable figures, including Léopold Sédar Senghor, the first president of Senegal.
The tour continues to the neighboring settlement of Fadiouth. You will walk across a wooden bridge that connects the two communities. On the island, you will see the local cemetery, known for its tombs and headstones made from the shells of mollusks, symbolizing peace between Muslims and Christians.
At the end of your guided tour of the cemetery, you can return to the mainland via a relaxing canoe ride for €15 per person, with a maximum capacity of one passenger per boat. Alternatively, you can walk back across the bridge. After your visit, you will return to your hotel in Saly, enjoying the coastal landscapes during the approximately one-hour journey.
