Discover the charm of one of Occitania's oldest cities with this exclusive private tour of Nîmes. An English-speaking guide will accompany you throughout the journey, ensuring a personalized experience.
Tour Overview
This private tour of Nîmes commences at the prearranged time from the square housing the Maison Carrée temple.
The Roman era represented a pivotal chapter in Nîmes’ history. You will learn how, in 27 B.C., Emperor Augustus established this city in Gaul, which eventually became the capital of the province of Narbonne. This region played a crucial role in the secure passage of the route to Hispania.
Among the significant structures from the Imperial period still standing today is the Roman amphitheater of Nîmes. From its exterior, you can admire this "mini Coliseum of Rome", a site where both gladiatorial contests and public performances captivated audiences, from nobility to common folk.
Our exploration continues through the serene La Fontaine Gardens. This picturesque area, established in the 17th century, allows us to view the fragments of the Temple of Diana and the impressive Tour Magne, an ancient Roman lookout standing at a height of 18 m (59 ft).
After an enriching 2-hour journey through Nîmes, our private tour will conclude in the heart of the city.
