The Pont du Gard (AD 50) is the tallest Roman bridge-aqueduct in the world (49m).
Located between Nimes, Avignon and 50min from Montpellier. Designed to convey water to Nimes 2000 years ago, it shows the extraordinary know-how of Roman engineers. Listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage monument, it is a real must-see! Every year, 1 million visitors come to admire this jewel of Roman civilization. In remarkably good conditions, the Pont du Gard stands in a natural setting of 165 hectares of a Mediterranean landscape.
The site provides visitors the opportunity to learn about the Roman civilization with the museum (2500m2 organized around reproductions and multimedia kiosks), a ludo kids area and a cinema. Visitors can taste seasonal Mediterranean cuisine at the “Les Terrasses” restaurant at the foot of the monument.
Be ready for a guided tour at the top of the bridge (50 meters high) and walk through the canalization or enjoy a real taste experience: a Roman wine tasting, on request. Little pleasures are often the simplest, so taste, contemplate and let yourself go!
In summer, every night at 10:30pm, enjoy the bridge under the stars with a beautiful light show (20 minutes).
