Discover the history of the oldest African American neighborhood in the United States on this tour of the Treme neighborhood in New Orleans. You'll stroll through tree-lined streets where Jazz was born and see the famous Louis Armstrong Park and Congo Square.

Treme Neighbourhood Tour

At the scheduled time, we'll meet on 718 N Rampart St to begin our guided tour of Treme, also known as New Orleans' African American neighborhood.

We will start by visiting Congo Square and Louis Armstrong Park to explore the spirit of the oldest African American neighborhood in the US. In the 18th century, African Americans in this area enjoyed the title of free person. The tour reveals why this was the case, along with other interesting facts.

We will visit significant historical sites such as St. Augustine's Church, the first black Catholic church in the United States. We will learn about the impact of the Civil War on this neighborhood and the history of the Ku Klux Klan in the area.

We will walk through picturesque streets featuring characteristic architecture and "Creole" houses. Additionally, we will explore the history of jazz, tracing its origins to the Treme district.

The tour lasts approximately 2 hours, concluding in Louis Armstrong Park as we reflect on the origins of New Orleans and its Afro-American culture.
