Hike Details

Ready to be in Argentina and Chile at the same time? After picking you up from your hotel in Caviahue, we'll begin our journey to Copahue, where we'll start our hiking trail to Hito Copahue.

We will prepare in Copahue's thermal resort before starting our trek through arid landscapes in the shadow of the Copahue Volcano. The hike covers 6 kilometres (3.7 miles), during which we will pass fossilised lava rocks from the crater. We will discuss the geological processes that shaped the landscape.

The trail winds between scattered bushes characteristic of the semi-desert plain. We will observe streams from snowmelt and may cross snowy areas.

Finally, we will arrive at the boundary marker X-5, known as Hito Copahue, the natural frontier between Argentina and Chile, surrounded by snowy peaks and arid hills. You can stand with one foot in each country. We will celebrate with a warm drink before starting our return.

On our descent, we will visit Callos Lagoon at the Copahue hot springs to dip our toes in the warm water of volcanic origin. After a total of 5 hours, we will return to your hotel in Caviahue.
