Cerro Verde Volcano and Mayan Ruins Trip

Experience a day immersed in the history and nature of three iconic locations in San Salvador. You'll enter the Natural Protected Area of Cerro Verde and visit the ruins of Joya de Cerén and San Andrés.

Description

We'll pick you up at your selected pickup point before departing on a one-hour drive to Los Volcanes National Park, a large area of volcanoes and lakes.

Upon arrival, we'll embark on a 45-minute hike to Cerro Verde Volcano, situated at an altitude of 2,035 meters (6,600 feet). We'll follow ecological trails and have the opportunity to admire Santa Ana Volcano and Izalco Volcano, known as the 'Lighthouse of the Pacific.'

We'll traverse a cloud forest before reaching the crater near the summit of Cerro Verde Volcano, surrounded by typical plant species such as the Giant Agave. Enjoy views of the volcanic lake of Coatepeque, one of the most beautiful in the world.

In the afternoon, we will trek to the archaeological site of Joya de Cerén, often referred to as the "Pompeii of America," where you'll explore a pre-Columbian Mayan agricultural village and learn about its preservation.

Next, we will proceed to the archaeological site of San Andrés, a former ceremonial and political center, where you can explore structures used by the rulers and see the remains of an indigo mill buried by an eruption in 1658.

Afterward, we will return to San Salvador, concluding our adventure.

If you prefer pickup at your hotel in San Salvador, a supplement of 10 USD per person is required, payable in cash on the day of the tour. For pickup at your hotel in Tunco, the supplement is 20 USD per person.
