Mayan Route Trip
Your adventure commences with a pick-up from your selected meeting point in San Salvador. After approximately one hour of travel, we will arrive at the archaeological site of Joya de Cerén. Here, you will have one and a half hours to explore this remarkable site, famously referred to as the "Pompeii of America." You will uncover the stories of a pre-Columbian Mayan village that remained remarkably preserved due to volcanic ashes from an eruption.
Next, we will journey for 20 minutes to the archaeological site of San Andrés, where you can admire the almost intact structures. During our one-hour exploration of these ruins, we will stroll through its streets and particularly focus on La Campana (The Bell), a notable area distinguished by its unique shape. This will provide you with a vivid picture of the life experienced by Maya nobility around 600 A.D.
Continuing along the Mayan Route, we will arrive at the ancient city of Santa Ana. Here, we will dedicate an hour to discovering these archaeological remains from the pre-classic period. Our knowledgeable guide will inform you about the origins of this ancient city. Additionally, you will explore the present-day city, visiting landmarks such as Theater, the Municipal Palace, and the beautifully designed Gothic-style Cathedral.
Leaving Santa Ana, we will head to the archaeological site of Tazumal, located approximately thirty minutes away near the city of Chalchuapa. At this site, we will spend around an hour exploring the largest pyramid in El Salvador, while learning about the significant history of this former Mayan city.
After concluding our visit to Tazumal, we will return to San Salvador, where you will be dropped off at your starting point.
