Immerse yourself in the fascinating ancient history of San Salvador with this trip to iconic locations along the Mayan Route, including the archaeological sites of San Salvador, San Andres, Santa Ana, and Tazumal.

Mayan Route Trip

The tour starts with pickup from your chosen location in San Salvador. After about an hour's drive, you'll arrive at the archaeological site of Joya de Cerén for a 1.5-hour visit to this pre-Columbian village, also known as the "Pompeii of America," preserved by volcanic ash.

Next, a 20-minute drive takes you to San Andrés for a one-hour exploration of its almost intact structures and streets, particularly the noteworthy area called La Campana, envisioning life for the Mayan nobility around 600 A.D.

Your journey continues to Santa Ana, where you'll spend an hour learning about this ancient city's pre-classic archaeological remains. You'll also visit the modern city, including the Theater, Municipal Palace, and Gothic-style Cathedral.

After Santa Ana, the tour proceeds to Tazumal, roughly 30 minutes away, where you'll spend an hour exploring El Salvador's largest pyramid and its historical significance.

The tour concludes with a return to San Salvador for drop-off at your initial meeting point.

For hotel pickups in San Salvador, a supplemental fee of 10 USD per booking in cash is required on the tour day. For pickups in Tunco, the fee is 20 USD per booking.
