Day of the Dead is one of Mexico's most celebrated festivals. Join us as we explore Oaxaca to discover the history and legends surrounding this spooky tradition by night.
Tour Details
After meeting at Cruz de Piedra Square, we will begin our Day of the Dead tour at Santo Domingo Square, the ideal location to learn about the history behind Oaxaca's celebrations.
From this square, we will view the Temple of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, known for its colourful decorations for the Day of the Dead. Enjoy photographing the sights throughout the tour.
We will then walk through the vibrant streets to the Panteón General. In this setting, we will experience the celebration's essence amid tombs, music, and incense, discussing the significance of Day of the Dead traditions and the relationship Mexicans have with death.
Next, we will visit the traditional Jalatlaco neighbourhood, observing how locals honor their deceased family members throughout the night. Flowers, incense, and symbolism will be prominent as we walk through alleyways adorned with intricate altars.
To conclude the night, we will enjoy a delicious dinner featuring traditional Day of the Dead dishes before ending this 4-hour tour.
Additional Info
Day of the Dead celebrations take place from October 30 to November 2. If you book the tour on other days, the altars in the Panteón General and the houses in Jalatlaco will not be present, and the tour will focus on traditions and history instead.
