Phnom Baset & Udong Private Day Trip
At the scheduled time, pickup will be from your hotel in Phnom Penh to travel to the hilltop temple complex of Phnom Baset, located 18 miles (30 km) northeast of the capital. An air-conditioned bus will be used for transportation, with a stop in a village featuring a large Muslim community of Cham people.
After learning about Cham traditions and culture, the journey continues to Phnom Baset. The historic Buddhist buildings atop the hill offer breathtaking views of the surrounding plains and rice paddies, including the 8th-century Pre-Angkorian temple and the Phnom Baset pagoda, home to the renowned reclining Buddha.
Next, the trip proceeds to Udong, a former capital of Cambodia, starting with a break for a typical picnic lunch. After lunch, the afternoon will include visits to various temples in Udong, which features three large stupas that house the ashes of three significant Cambodian kings. The guide will share facts about their history. The tour also includes a visit to the Vihara of the 18 Cubit Buddha, an immense statue that remains a highlight despite damage from past conflicts.
The return to Phnom Penh will include a stop in Kompong Luong to learn about local handicrafts and view unique objects created by artisans.
