Phnom Baset & Udong Private Day Trip
At the indicated time, we will pick you up from your hotel in Phnom Penh and set off to the hilltop temple complex of Phnom Baset, located 18 miles (30 km) northeast of the capital. The journey will include a stop in a village with a large Muslim community of Cham people, where you'll learn about their traditions and culture.
After this stop, we will proceed to Phnom Baset, where the historic Buddhist buildings offer breathtaking views over rolling green plains and rice paddies. You will see the 8th-century Pre-Angkorian temple and the Phnom Baset pagoda, home to the famous reclining Buddha.
Next, we will continue to Udong, a former capital of Cambodia. Our first agenda item will be a break for a typical picnic lunch. Afterward, we will visit the various temples in the town, including three large stupas containing the ashes of three significant kings.
Admire the detailed decorations of these stupas while the guide shares insights about their history. You will also have the opportunity to see the Vihara of the 18 Cubit Buddha, a large statue that is a notable highlight of the ancient town despite being partially destroyed by conflict.
Finally, we will return to Phnom Penh, stopping in Kompong Luong to learn about local handicrafts and view unique handmade objects.
