Archaeological Journey in Olbia
Our adventure begins at 2 pm at Molo Brin, located near the marina of Olbia. Are you prepared to delve into the past? We will board a tuk tuk and embark on a guided exploration of archaeological sites in this historic Sardinian city, where you'll uncover the intricate stories behind these ancient lands.
This journey includes multiple stops at various landmarks, allowing you the opportunity to investigate them at your own pace while uncovering fascinating insights with the provided English-language audioguide.
Our first destination will be the Basilica of San Simplicio, an exquisite Romanesque church whose history traces back to the 11th century. Following this, we will take a leap further back in time as we admire the Roman aqueduct of Olbia, an engineering marvel that transported water from the nearby Cabu Abbas mountain to the city. Close to the aqueduct, you will also find an ancient Roman cistern, historically utilized for rainwater storage.
However, the Roman presence was not the first. Prior to their arrival, the region was home to a Nuragic settlement, known as one of Sardinia's most prominent civilizations from the Bronze Age. During our visit, you will be able to view the remains of the sacred well Sa Testa as well as the Giants' Grave of Su Mont'e s'Abe. This remarkable ancient cemetery features impressive stone structures that tower up to 92 feet (28 meters) tall!
Our journey will culminate with a visit to the outside of the Castello di Pedres, a fortress steeped in 13th-century history. In its prime, the castle boasted four towers, with one still standing today.
The tour will conclude at 5:30 pm, returning to our starting point.
