Soweto Bike Tour
Gathering at Kumalo Street, our adventure kicks off as we prepare to ride through the vibrant neighborhood of Soweto! It promises to be a captivating experience.
Once everyone is equipped with their bicycles and helmets, we'll begin our journey in Killarney, where you'll learn about the origins of Soweto, which was established in 1904.
Our next stop will be the home of Lilian Ngoyi, a prominent figure in the anti-apartheid movement who championed the rights of women in South Africa. Continuing our exploration, we'll visit the Hector Pieterson Museum, a site of great historical importance where the Soweto Uprising catalyzed change against the apartheid regime.
Every bike tour through Soweto must include a visit to Nelson Mandela's residence, where he lived from 1946 until he took office as president of South Africa in 1994. Shortly after, we will stop by Desmond Tutu's former home, where this renowned clergyman and advocate for peace resided. A fascinating fact: he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984.
To recharge, we'll pause for lunch and savor a kota sandwich, a delightful taste of South African cuisine!
After spending around 4 hours cycling through the streets of Soweto, we will conclude our tour and return to our initial meeting spot, bidding farewell as we depart.
