Nelson Mandela's house, the Hector Pieterson Museum, Desmond Tutu's house... On this bike tour of Soweto, we'll learn about the history of South Africa while exploring one of its important neighborhoods.
Bike Tour of Soweto
We will meet at Kumalo Street at the scheduled time to start the bike tour of Soweto.
After everyone is equipped with their bikes and helmets, we will commence our ride through Soweto, starting in Killarney to discuss the creation of Soweto in 1904.
Next, we will visit the house of Lilian Ngoyi, a notable anti-apartheid activist who advocated for the rights of South African women. We will then continue to the Hector Pieterson Museum, which commemorates the Soweto Uprising, a significant event against the apartheid system.
We will also visit Nelson Mandela's house, where he lived from 1946 to 1962 before becoming president of South Africa. Following that, we will stop at Desmond Tutu's house, the residence of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning clergyman and pacifist.
Finally, we will take a break for lunch to sample a kota sandwich, a traditional South African dish. After 4 hours of biking through Soweto, the activity will conclude and we will return to the meeting point.
