Day Trip to Peñiscola

The adventure begins at 9:15 am, where we will gather next to the Tourist Office of Oropesa del Mar. A minibus will be ready to transport us to Peñíscola.

After a scenic 40-minute drive, we will reach this picturesque town along the Costa del Azahar. Prepare to explore Peñíscola! Throughout our guided tour, we will stroll past its iconic monuments and learn how Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines, and Arabs have shaped this unique locale.

From the historic artillery park, enjoy a view of Peñíscola’s northern beach alongside Pope Luna’s castle. After taking some captivating photos of its exterior, we will venture inside this remarkable fortress. Did you know that a bishop sought refuge here, challenging papal power? We will delve into the intriguing details of the Western Schism, a pivotal moment in the history of the Catholic Church.

The route will also introduce you to other notable structures like the Casa de las Conchas and the Church of Santa Maria, which dates back to the 13th century.

Next, we will explore the Bufador, a natural opening amid the rocks that creates a fascinating howling sound. According to local legends, this eerie noise deterred many attackers seeking to conquer Peñíscola throughout history.

Our final destination will be the Museum of the Sea. There, through photographs, illustrations, historical engravings, fishing gear, and various artifacts, we will gain insight into the maritime heritage of this coastal town.

After our museum visit, it will be time to bid farewell to Peñíscola. We will return via minibus, concluding our tour at approximately 1:45 pm back at Oropesa del Mar.
