At the indicated time, visit the Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, a medieval fortress built by the Hohenstaufen family in the 12th century. The castle has undergone various ownerships, influencing its structure, notably during the 15th century under the Habsburgs. It faced abandonment after the Thirty Years' War until its restoration in 1900 by Wilhelm II of Germany, led by Bodo Ebhardt. It now serves as a historical and educational monument attracting over half a million visitors annually.
Your ticket grants you access to a self-guided tour. You can explore the lower courtyard, castle inn, forge, and mill, ascend spiral staircases to the lord’s chambers, cross drawbridges, and traverse various historically significant rooms.
Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg Opening Hours
The Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg is open at these times:
January, February, March: 9:30 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 5 pmApril, May, June, September, October, November, December: 9:30 am to 6 pmJuly, August: 9 am to 7 pm
Final admission is one hour before closing. The castle is closed on January 1st and December 25th and 26th.
Free Admission
On the first Sunday of each month from November to March, and during European Heritage Days, admission is free for all visitors.
