Gion Free Walking Tour
On the day of the activity, we'll meet on the shores of the Kamo River to kick off our tour of the Gion district. The tour explores the famous geisha district of Kyoto, discussing the rich history behind the artists and their traditional wooden houses.
We'll visit an okiya, a traditional geisha house, where we will cover the details of a geisha's journey and the apprenticeship that must be completed before becoming a geisha, focusing on maikos.
The tour includes walking by various osha-ya, or tea houses, where we discuss the traditional music and dance studies that geishas undertake during training.
We will conclude the tour at the Yasaka Shrine, one of Japan's oldest and most iconic temples, known for its festivals where gishas play an integral role. The tour lasts for 2 hours.
