Gion Free Walking Tour
On the day of the activity, we'll meet on the shores of the Kamo River to kick off our free tour of the Gion district. We'll explore the famous geisha district of Kyoto.
As we stroll through the streets, we'll discuss the history of the artists whose traditional wooden houses line the neighborhood.
Next, we'll visit an okiya, a traditional geisha house, and delve into a geisha's journey. We will introduce you to important aspects, including the apprenticeship phase for maikos.
Throughout the tour, we'll pass by various osha-ya, or tea houses, while learning about the traditional music and dance studies geishas undergo during their training.
To conclude our tour, we'll visit the Yasaka Shrine, one of the oldest and most iconic temples in Japan, where geishas play a vital role during the festivals.
After 2 hours immersed in the world of geishas, we'll end the tour at this last site.
