Learn all the details of the harrowing history of the Holocaust in Poland with this guided tour of Auschwitz-Birkenau, a place that saw thousands of people suffer and die at the hands of the Nazis.
Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Wi??niów O?wi?cimia den O?wi?cim. The tour of the concentration camp will start in Auschwitz I, where we'll find the infamous inscription Arbeit Macht Frei. This camp held up to 20,000 prisoners in 1942 and housed Block 11, where prisoners faced hangings, starvation, and executions.
We'll visit barracks that housed thousands under overcrowded conditions and learn about the experiments of Dr. Josef Mengele. This area also contained a brothel for inmates with privileges.
After a 10-minute break, we'll enter Auschwitz II-Birkenau, established for extermination. We'll observe the train tracks where Jews, Romani, Sinti people, and members of the LGBTQ community arrived, subsequently selected for forced labor or death.
We'll walk to the watchtower and see the remaining barracks, as others were destroyed by Germans. At the end of the esplanade, we’ll view the location of the gas chambers and crematorium ovens, which were also destroyed before liberation.
The tour concludes back at the starting point after 2 hours and 40 minutes.
