Caraça Sanctuary Excursion

If you are in Ouro Preto, you cannot miss this excursion to the Caraça Sanctuary, in Catas Altas. We will see a large religious complex surrounded by lush vegetation. Are you coming?

Description

At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Ouro Preto and begin this excursion to the Caraça Sanctuary. We'll head towards the city of Catas Altas, in the interior of Minas Gerais.

After a 2-hour drive, we'll arrive and have our first glimpse of the Nossa Senhora Mãe Dos Homens Church, built between 1876 and 1883. This is the first neo-Gothic temple in Brazil with a 48-meter-high (157 foot) tower surrounded by the green landscape of the Serra de Caraça.

We'll start a walk of about 2 kilometres to reach Cascatinha, a 40-metre (131 foot) waterfall formed by 4 waterfalls and 4 natural pools. You will have free time to relax at the waterfall or take a swim. Afterwards, we'll return to the Caraça Sanctuary complex for lunch if you wish in a local restaurant.

We will then enter the sanctuary, accessing the church's interior, where a painting of the Last Supper and the baroque image of Nossa Senhora Dos Homens are notable features.

We will visit the remaining buildings of the religious complex, including the calvary, cloister, catacombs, and museum.

Finally, we'll return to your hotel in Ouro Preto to conclude the tour after 11 hours.
