If you are in Ouro Preto, you cannot miss this excursion to the Caraça Sanctuary, in Catas Altas. We will see a large religious complex surrounded by lush vegetation. Are you coming?
Description
We will pick you up at your hotel in Ouro Preto and begin the excursion to the Caraça Sanctuary. The journey to the city of Catas Altas in the interior of Minas Gerais lasts approximately 2 hours.
Upon arrival, we'll see the Nossa Senhora Mãe Dos Homens Church, which was built between 1876 and 1883 and is the first neo-Gothic temple in Brazil. It features a notable 48-meter-high (157 foot) tower amid the green scenery of the Serra de Caraça.
Next, we will walk about 2 kilometers to Cascatinha, a 40-meter (131 foot) waterfall with four waterfalls and natural pools. The waters vary in color due to organic matter from the mountains.
You will have free time to relax at the waterfall and swim if desired. Afterward, we will return to the Caraça Sanctuary complex for optional lunch at a local restaurant.
We will then enter the sanctuary to view the church's interior, including a painting of the Last Supper and a baroque image of Nossa Senhora Dos Homens, carved in wood and painted with gold.
Finally, we will visit the other buildings of the religious complex, including the calvary, the cloister, the catacombs, and the museum before returning to your hotel in Ouro Preto, completing the tour after 11 hours.
