This excursion to Maquiné Grotto and Cordisburgo is a blend of nature, history, and literature. You'll witness the stalactites and stalagmites inside the magnificent cave and explore the life of Guimarães Rosa, an influential figure in Brazilian literature.

Day Trip to the Maquiné Cave & Cordisburgo

We will collect you from your hotel in Ouro Preto at 8 am and embark on a three-hour journey by minibus to the Maquiné Grotto, a natural landmark.

This cave, discovered in the 19th century by a farmer, is well-preserved. As we explore its chambers, filled with stalactites and stalagmites, we will identify various rock formations, including the elephant and the bear.

Afterward, we will travel to Cordisburgo, the hometown of João Guimarães Rosa. We will visit the museum to learn more about his life and legacy.

During the Cordisburgo tour, we will visit the town’s iconic sites, such as the Portal Grande Sertão, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, and an open-air museum with animal sculptures. Additionally, an hour and a half of free time will be provided for lunch at a local restaurant.

At 5 pm, we will conclude the tour and drop you back at your hotel.
