Day Trip to the Maquiné Cave & Cordisburgo

This excursion to Maquiné Grotto and Cordisburgo combines nature, history, and literature. Participants will experience the stunning stalactites and stalagmites within the cave and explore the life of Guimarães Rosa, a significant figure in Brazilian literature.

Day Trip to the Maquiné Cave & Cordisburgo

Picking up from your hotel in Ouro Preto at 8 am, we will start a three-hour minibus journey to the Maquiné Grotto.

The cave, discovered in the 19th century, is well-preserved. Inside, we will explore chambers adorned with stalactites and stalagmites and identify various animal and character shapes formed by the rock.

Next, we will proceed to Cordisburgo, the birthplace of João Guimarães Rosa. A visit to the museum will provide insight into his life and contributions.

During the Cordisburgo tour, visitors will see key sites including the Portal Grande Sertão, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, and an open-air museum featuring animal sculptures. There will also be an hour and a half of free time for lunch at a local restaurant.

The tour concludes at 5 pm, returning participants to their hotel.
