This excursion to Maquiné Grotto and Cordisburgo offers a mix of nature, history, and literature. Participants will observe stalactites and stalagmites in the magnificent cave and explore the legacy of Guimarães Rosa, a key figure in Brazilian literature.
Day Trip Details
The tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Ouro Preto at 8 am, followed by a three-hour minibus journey to the Maquiné Grotto. This well-preserved cave, discovered in the 19th century, features unique rock formations. Guides will assist you in identifying formations resembling an elephant and a bear.
Following the cave exploration, the group will head to Cordisburgo, the birthplace of João Guimarães Rosa. A visit to the museum will provide insights into his contribution to literature.
During the Cordisburgo tour, iconic sites like the Portal Grande Sertão, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, and an open-air museum featuring animal sculptures will be visited. Participants will have an hour and a half of free time to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
The tour concludes at 5 pm, with a return to the hotel.
