How can a verdant rainforest thrive alongside the Atacama Desert? Join this expedition to the Bosque Fray Jorge National Park from Ovalle to uncover the answer!
Tour of Fray Jorge National Park
Your adventure begins with a pickup from your Ovalle hotel at 8 am, as we set off towards Fray Jorge National Park, situated 63 kilometers away.
Fray Jorge is recognized as the northernmost Valdivian rainforest in Chile. But what allows such a forest to flourish near the dry Atacama Desert? In this tour, we will investigate the unique climatic conditions that shape this fascinating ecosystem.
Throughout our journey, we will explore various regions of the Fray Jorge Forest, following diverse trails in this lush woodland designated as a Chilean National Park. This protected area is conveniently located a short distance from the Pacific Ocean, where we'll observe how the camanchaca, or coastal fog, plays a crucial role in promoting the region's vegetation.
As we navigate this stunning rainforest, we will also delve into the origins of the ecosystem, which emerged from a collection of biological entities referred to as 'biota'.
Upon concluding our exploration of Bosque Fray Jorge National Park, we will return to your hotel in Ovalle, with an expected arrival time of 2 pm.
