If you're a nature buff travelling around New Zealand, then you can't miss this tour of the Kawiti Glowworm Caves. You'll also visit the Hundertwasser Exhibition Centre and Opua Forest. Don't miss it!
Description
On the day of the activity, we'll meet at the Paihia Information Centre at the scheduled time. From there, we'll begin this nature-based tour of the Kawiti Glowworm Caves, the Hundertwasser Exhibition, and Opua Forest.
Firstly, we'll make our way to the Glowworm Caves. A local Maori guide will lead us through the underground caverns for around 30 minutes, following a wooden boardwalk through a 200-metre-long system of limestone caves. We will observe thousands of glowworms lighting up the cave's ceiling while learning about their life cycle and unique webs.
Next, we'll visit Kawakawa, home of the "Hundertwasser Toilets," designed by Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser in 1999, showcasing recycled materials. We will also stop by the Hundertwasser Cultural Centre, which opened on 22nd of February 2022, housing art by Hundertwasser and local Maori crafts. Before leaving, we will enjoy a fresh cream doughnut.
The final destination will be the Opua Forest, known for Kauri trees over 1000 years old. We will return to the Wharf, passing by the Waitangi lookout for photo opportunities.
After 4 hours, this tour will conclude back at the starting point. M? te w?!
