Visit Palermo's Three Most Beautiful Churches
Our meeting point is the Palermo Quattro Canti Hotel, where we'll start a tour of three of Palermo's notable churches.
First, we visit the Church of San Giuseppe dei Teatini, the most visited church in Palermo. Inside, the frescoes exemplify Sicilian baroque art, featuring two holy water fountains sculpted by Ignazio Marabitti.
A short walk leads us to the Church of Santa Caterina, dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria. This church combines late Renaissance features on its facade with a baroque interior. We'll admire its choir, main altar, chapels, and frescoes while discussing its history.
Our final stop is the Church of Gesù, or Casa Professa. The austere exterior of this 17th-century Jesuit church contrasts with its ornate interior, adorned with sculptures, polychrome inlays, marble ornaments, and frescoes. We will discuss the building's challenges post-World War II.
After three hours of exploration, we conclude the guided tour outside the Church of Santa Caterina.
