Travel back in time with this excursion to the San Lorenzo and San Jeronimo forts in Portobelo. You'll discover stories of pirates in two of the most important defense areas in Panama.
Day Trip to the San Lorenzo & San Jeronimo Forts
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Panama City at 8 am. We'll board a bus that will take us to Portobelo, where we'll visit two fortifications on the Caribbean coast of Panama, which have been a World Heritage Site since 1980.
During the excursion, we'll discover the forts of San Lorenzo and San Jeronimo, built by the Spanish in the 17th and 18th centuries. Before entering, we will explain the significance of Panama as a strategic point in the Americas.
First, we'll enter the fort of San Lorenzo, an important Spanish military fort on the Caribbean coast, where we'll learn about the different pirate attacks it defended against.
Later, we'll visit the fort of San Jeronimo, founded in 1597 by Francisco Velarde, a notable Spanish conquistador.
After touring both monuments, we'll return to our hotels in Panama City, arriving 7 hours after pickup.
