Day Trip to the San Lorenzo & San Jeronimo Forts
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Panama City at 8 am. A bus will transport us to Portobelo, home to two significant fortifications on the Caribbean coast of Panama, which have been recognized as a World Heritage Site since 1980.
During the excursion, we'll explore the forts of San Lorenzo and San Jeronimo, built by the Spanish in the 17th and 18th centuries. Before our tour, we will explain the relevance of Panama as a strategic point in the Americas.
We will first enter the fort of San Lorenzo, an important Spanish military fort. As we walk through its remains, we will learn about the various pirate attacks it defended against.
Next, we'll visit the fort of San Jeronimo, founded in 1597 by Francisco Velarde. After touring both monuments, we will return to our hotels in Panama City, approximately 7 hours after pickup.
