The Diocese of Panama was set up in 1514 by Franciscan missionaries, and is thought to be the oldest in the Americas. Whether you prefer to hear Mass in English or Spanish, every weekend there are Catholic services for you to attend. Your friendly driver will collect you from your Panama City hotel and take you to church. At 5pm on Saturdays and 7pm on Sundays the Church of St. Joseph in the Old Town holds Spanish language services. This church is a much-loved place of worship, housing a stunning golden baroque dating back to the 17th century. Legend has it that when Panama City was repeatedly looted by pirates the priests painted the altar with black oil to save it from their clutches.

On Sundays at 8am the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus opens its doors to meet the spiritual needs of English visitors. This pretty white colonial building, set among lush vegetation, features beautiful stained glass windows that were ordered specially from Italy, and is the centre of a devoted and friendly Christian community. Form a deep spiritual connection with this passionate Catholic country with a worship experience you will remember forever.
