Tour Overview

With its winding cobblestone alleys and charming dead ends, the heart of Paris's 4th arrondissement conceals a neighborhood rich in medieval heritage. Our journey begins at the Place Marie-Claude-Vaillant-Couturier-et-Pierre-Villon, the starting point of this Le Marais walking tour.

We will proceed towards the Mémorial de la Shoah, the first Jewish documentation center established in Europe, which significantly contributed to the Nuremberg trials. This stop leads us into the vibrant Jewish quarter of Paris, situated within Le Marais.

As we explore the Jewish Quarter, we'll visit the beautiful Hôtel de Sens gardens. Here, we’ll uncover the history behind the Coquette Palace, where Margaret of Valois rests. After this exploration, we continue to Square Marie Trintignant, where we can gaze at its main entrance and seek out 19th-century graffiti adorning its façade.

Next, we’ll head to Le Village Saint-Paul, a lovely historic enclave resembling a miniature medieval village within Le Marais. After learning about its intriguing past, we’ll face an exciting challenge: navigate a dead-end street without retracing our steps. Curious about how we achieve this? After overcoming this challenge, we’ll set out to uncover the three hidden treasures of Le Marais. Here’s a hint: they include the only piece of Delacroix displayed outside a museum. Once we crack this code, our journey continues to the majestic façade of Hôtel de Sully, an elegant 17th-century palace in the Louis 13th style. We’ll venture into the patio and the interior garden, but with a twist—once we enter, we can’t return. Are you up for this challenge?

Should we successfully locate the exit, we’ll emerge onto a spacious square. From there, we’ll proceed to another notable site: the Place de la Bastille. Here, we’ll discuss the historical fort stormed on July 14, 1789, marking the advent of the French Revolution. We will explore various aspects of this landmark, with its grand obelisk, while unraveling the rich history surrounding this significant location at the gateway to Le Marais.

Concluding our 2-hour adventure, the tour will wrap up at the Place de la Bastille.
