Tour Details
Right in the center of Paris' 4th arrondissement, there's a neighborhood that recounts the city's medieval past. Our free tour of Le Marais will begin at the scheduled time from the Place Pierre-Kauffmann, next to rue des Barres.
This area features cobblestones and buildings that reflect its Middle Ages heritage, including the Hôtel de Barre and the nuns' house of the Daughters of the Cross.
Next, we will visit the Shoah Memorial, Europe's first Jewish documentation center, with historical significance during the Nuremberg trials. From here, we will enter the Jewish Quarter of Paris.
In the Jewish Quarter, we will explore the Hôtel de Sens gardens and learn about the Coquette Palace, the burial site of Margaret of Valois. We will then visit Square Marie Trintignant, noting the 19th-century graffiti on its façade.
We will continue to Le Village Saint-Paul, a historical area reminiscent of a medieval town. We will then face a challenge: try to exit a dead-end street without retracing our steps.
Next, we will uncover the three treasures of Le Marais, including the only piece of Delacroix found outside a museum. We will visit the Hôtel de Sully, a palace from the 17th century, and explore its patio and interior garden.
The tour concludes at the Place de la Bastille, where we will learn about the fort seized on July 14, 1789, marking the start of the French Revolution.
After 2 hours, this tour will end at Place de la Bastille.
