Tour Overview
Day 1: Arrival in Bhutan - Thimphu
Upon your arrival at Paro Airport, a warm welcome awaits. After passing through immigration, we will embark on a scenic drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan.
Once in Thimphu, we’ll make a stop at the impressive Tashichoe Dzong Fortress if time allows, and we can fit in more visits depending on your arrival schedule, all included in your itinerary.
Day 2: Thimphu
Kick off your day with breakfast at the hotel before heading to the National Memorial Chorten, a remarkable stupa commemorating Bhutan's third king. The day continues with visits to the splendid golden Dordenma Buddha, the National Library, and a local handmade paper factory, providing a deep dive into Bhutanese culture.
Next, we’ll explore the Takin Reserve, where you can see this fascinating species along with diverse wildlife. Afterward, enjoy a local lunch before having some leisure time to discover the town independently. In the evening, return to your hotel in Thimphu for relaxation.
Day 3: Thimphu - Punakha
After breakfast, we’ll depart Thimphu heading towards the picturesque Punakha Valley. Along the route, admire the breathtaking mountain vistas adorned with colorful prayer flags and the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens. We’ll traverse the Royal Botanical Park of Lamperi and the village of Lobesa, where a visit to the Chimi Lhakhang temple awaits.
At this temple, learn about Lama Drukpa Kunley, known for his unconventional teachings in Tibetan Buddhism. The temple is also a significant pilgrimage site for women wishing to conceive. After this enlightening visit, we arrive at our hotel in Punakha to prepare for the adventures ahead.
Day 4: Punakha
Following an early breakfast, we’ll venture north to see the Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten. On our way, we’ll stop at a nunnery located on Walakha Hill.
Reaching the Chorten, we’ll embark on a 45-minute uphill trek, crossing a suspension bridge over rice fields to reach this stunning monument. Our journey continues to Punakha Dzong, often referred to as the Palace of Happiness, strategically nestled at the confluence of the Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers.
Finally, we’ll arrive in Wangdiphodrang, where we can explore the local market and the Dzong, offering insight into the artisanal crafts of the area. After a fulfilling day, we return to the hotel in Punakha to rest.
Day 5: Punakha - Phobijkha
Post-breakfast, we’ll travel to the breathtaking Phobjikha Valley, situated around 3,000 meters (9,843 feet) above sea level. Upon arrival, take in scenic views before visiting the striking Gangtey Gonpa, a temple belonging to the Nyingmapa Buddhism tradition, one of Bhutan's major religious practices.
Following our temple visit, a hike through the scenic Phobjikha Valley awaits, famous for its migrating black-necked cranes from Tibet. The path leads through vibrant forests of oak and azaleas, promising a picturesque experience.
Day 6: Phobijkha - Paro
After a hearty breakfast, we’ll commence our journey back to Paro, stopping at the scenic heights of Dochula Pass. On our route, we’ll explore Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in Bhutan, constructed in 1627. This historical site serves as a hub for the School of Buddhist Studies.
Our journey concludes in Paro where you can unwind at your hotel for the remainder of the day.
Day 7: Paro
Your final day will feature one of the tour's most remarkable highlights. After breakfast, we’ll head to Tiger’s Nest, known as Taktshang Monastery, which clings to a cliff 900 meters above the valley. Enjoy the stunning vistas after a challenging 2 to 3 hour hike, well worth the effort.
