Day Trip to Castellón de la Plana
Our adventure begins at 8:30 am, departing from the Peñíscola Tourist Office. A comfortable minibus will transport us to Castellón de la Plana in just over an hour.
Our first destination is El Grao de Castellón. Here, we will delve into the city’s strong maritime heritage and appreciate scenic views of the lighthouse, the bustling fishing port, and its stylish marina, all framed by modernist buildings in this vibrant coastal area.
Next, we journey to the historic heart of Castellón de la Plana, where we will visit the Museum of Fine Arts. This cultural gem showcases a diverse collection, including Valencian ceramics and remarkable oil paintings from Zurbarán’s collection, alongside an array of impressive sculptures.
After our museum experience, we will stroll to the lively Monday market, featuring over 300 stalls offering a variety of goods. Looking forward to indulging in some leisurely shopping?
Our exploration continues with notable landmarks that highlight the city’s rich architectural history. We will step inside the Cathedral of Santa María la Mayor and uncover its intriguing past, marked by a significant fire and the events of the Spanish Civil War. Adjacent to the cathedral stands the impressive El Fadrí bell tower, soaring nearly 60 meters high!
We will conclude this insightful day trip by returning to Peñíscola, arriving around 2 pm.
