San José Caves Day Trip
Our adventure begins at the assigned time as we gather in front of the Peniscola Tourist Office. From there, we will embark on a 65-mile (105-kilometer) journey in a comfortable minibus to reach the captivating caves located in Vall de Uxó, nestled within the Sierra Espadán Natural Park.
These caves boast a fascinating history, having been inhabited over 15,000 years ago. As we navigate the interior via boat, you will discover a wealth of intriguing facts, including the opportunity to glide along the longest underground river in Europe. The exact depth remains a mystery, as speleologists have yet to determine it.
While on the boat, you will marvel at the stunning stalactites and stalagmites that adorn the walls of the Vall de Uxó caves. Following this, we will take a stroll through an impressive 250-meter (820-foot) long gallery. Interestingly, the temperature inside the cave is a constant 20ºC throughout the year.
After approximately 40 minutes exploring the caves and their geological wonders, we will emerge back to the surface. We will then make our way back to Peniscola, concluding our trip after a delightful 5 to 6 hours.
