History, crafts and folklore await on our day trip to Guática and Quinchía. We'll depart from Pereira and visit two municipalities that represent Risaralda's culture on this excursion.
Guática & Quinchía Day Trip
At 7:30 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Pereira and set off for the northern part of the Risaralda region. After a 2-hour drive in our jeep, we'll arrive at our first destination, Quinchía, known as the Village of Hills ("Villa de los Cerros").
Upon arrival, we'll explore the town and visit the Tierras de Xixaraca Archaeological Museum to see its important collection of Quimbaya artefacts and learn about local Indigenous beliefs.
Next, we will visit a filigree workshop where local craftsmen demonstrate their techniques for this unique metalwork typical of Quinchía. Afterward, we'll enjoy lunch consisting of a traditional regional dish and a drink. Following lunch, we will head to Guática, known for its varied folklore.
In Guática, we will learn about the production of silk, one of its characteristic local products, visiting a workshop that explains the cultivation of mulberry trees, the feeding source for silkworms. We will also see how the material is treated and crafted into fabrics by local artisans. Afterward, there will be time to purchase souvenirs. We will return to Pereira and drop you off at your hotel around 4:30 pm.
