Otún Quimbaya Sanctuary Hike

At 8 am, hotel pickup will be provided for the journey to the Otún Quimbaya Fauna and Flora Sanctuary, located southwest of Pereira.

The travel distance is 18 kilometers to this natural reserve in the Cordillera Central of the Colombian Andes. The sanctuary is known for its biodiversity, housing numerous bird species, insects, small mammals, and plants.

Upon arrival, a 2-kilometer hiking route will be taken through one of the Andean rainforest trails. The hike is low difficulty, guided by an environmental expert who will assist in exploring the scenic landscapes of this protected area.

During the hike, a stop will be made for a typical local lunch, which includes one dish and a drink, before continuing the exploration.

The sanctuary also focuses on endangered species. Notable wildlife includes birds such as the moustached antpitta, multicolored tanager, and torrent duck, along with mammals including monkeys, tapirs, and pacaranas, which is the second-largest rodent in Colombia.

The tour concludes with a return to Pereira, dropping participants off at their hotel by 2 pm.
